A relatively simple choruser, reverb, and pitch shifter was applied to the Wizard’s voice in Emerald City’s 2010-11 performance of The Wizard of Oz. The patch itself only needs to be sent a midi signal to toggle its on/off function. Thus, it can be easily integrated into shows programmed into max/msp and qlab alike.

When the witch meets her demise at the end of the show, this subpatch is triggered and her voice then becomes progressively more texturized and unintelligible as she melts away. This is done by gradually reducing the sampling rate and bit depth of the signal.
